Questions and answers - prams

Dear customers, we have answers to questions that we often get when we talk to our customers about prams. We hope that we can make it easier for you to buy a pushchair. If you still have questions, you can always send us an e-mail or give us a call for personal advice.

1.Buying a pram

1.1 Which pram suits my lifestyle?

Pushchairs come in many different models and colours. Which pram suits your lifestyle best depends on what the pram has to offer and what is important to you. There are prams with four and three wheels, prams for twins, large and small wheels, pneumatic tyres and foam tyres. Which pram is best for you depends on your individual situation and needs. For example, if you are sporty and live in a hilly area, or if you like to walk on uneven ground or on the beach. There is a pram for every lifestyle.

1.2 How much does a good pram cost?

A good pram does not have to be very expensive. There are many prams on the market that offer perfect value for money. For example, the prams from the Moon and ABC Design companies. They are high-quality and robust prams that do not cost a fortune.

1.3 Which wheels are recommended?

This depends on where you mainly travel. If you like to walk in the forest or on the beach, on uneven terrain, then it is advisable to use larger wheels. Pneumatic wheels are recommended for even better cushioning. However, many prams today are equipped with foam wheels or air chamber wheels as standard. This has the advantage that they do not tear and therefore have a longer life.

1.4 How long can I use the pushchair?

Most prams can be used with a suitable carrycot or in combination with a baby car seat from birth to about 4 years.

1.5 Is an ergonomic or a flat seat better?

There is no right or wrong here. This is a matter of preference. The advantage of a flatlay seat is that your child can sleep completely flat in the pram. However, there are also many children who prefer the natural position of an ergonomic seat unit.

1.6 What is a combi pram?

A combi pram is a pram that consists of at least 3 parts. The carrycot, the frame and the seat unit. Some pushchairs also come with a rain cover and/or a car seat adapter.

1.7 Can I use my bicycle trailer as a pram?

Yes, you can use the bicycle trailer as a pram. With a suitable baby carrier/baby hammock, you can use the Thule Bicycle Trailer from 1 month of age.

1.8 Can I configure my own pram?

You can configure some prams yourself. These are Bugaboo prams, such as the Bugaboo Fox2 and the Donkey3 Styled by You pram. However, most prams come in standard configurations.

1.9 Is my pram produced sustainably and what does that mean?

More and more manufacturers are making a point of producing pushchairs in the most environmentally friendly way possible - and so are we. It is important that we leave a clean world for our children. By cleverly reusing materials, this is increasingly succeeding. There are already prams that are made from PET bottles. One example is the Joolz Aer buggy in sophisticated black.

1.10 Can I expand my pram to a duo or twin pram?

A number of prams can be upgraded from a mono pram to a duo or twin pram. If you already have one child and a second child is on the way, you don't have to buy a whole new pram. By adding an extra carrycot or seat unit to your pram, you can use it for a longer period of time. Examples are the Thule Sleek, Joolz Geo2, Bugaboo Donkey3 pram.

1.11 Are pneumatic wheels better for damping?

Pneumatic wheels give you better damping on uneven ground. However, good suspension and a good tread of the tyres are equally important.

1.12 Is an electronic pram a must?

An electronic pushchair is not a must, but it can be very practical in some cases. For example, if you live in a hilly area and often have to push the pram uphill, an electronic pram is very practical. However, the e-pushchairs are more expensive than normal pushchairs. Cybex has a nice electronic pram in its range: Cybex e-Priam pram.

1.13 From what age can I put my child in the seat unit?

You can use the seat unit of the pram from about 6 months. However, this will vary from child to child. One child may be very curious and eager to explore the world at 6 months, while another may enjoy time in the carrycot.

1.14 What is the difference between a pram and a buggy?

A pram is also called a combination pram. A combination pram consists of a frame, a carrycot and a seat unit. This pram can be used from birth to about 4 years. A buggy is purchased later to take with you on holiday, for example. Children who have outgrown the carrycot can use a buggy from about 6 months. However, there are also buggies to which you can attach a car seat or even a carrycot with a suitable adapter. A combination pram is more comfortable to drive because the wheels of a pram are usually larger than those of a buggy. A buggy has the advantage that it can be folded compactly and some models can even be taken on a plane.

1.15 Is a telescopic handle or an adjustable handle better?

It's not a question of good or bad. It all depends on what you prefer. For taller people, it might be better to choose a pram with an extendable push handle so that you have more space behind the pram.

2.Guarantee prams

2.1 How many years guarantee do I have on my pram?

This depends on the type of pram you have. Some manufacturers like Joolz offer a lifetime guarantee if you register the pram. Bugaboo offers a 2-year guarantee with a one-year extension. However, most prams have a 2-year guarantee.

2.2 Are there any spare parts for my pram?

Yes, there are spare parts for every pram. If a part of your pushchair breaks and this is covered by your guarantee, this part will be provided free of charge.

3. Features of the pushchair

3.1 Is a 3-wheeled pushchair stable?

Yes, a 3-wheeled pushchair is stable. The advantage of a 3-wheeled pushchair is that it is more manoeuvrable than a 4-wheeled pushchair. In addition, a 3-wheeled pushchair is super suitable for sporty people. A 3-wheel pushchair with a fixed front wheel can be used for running, for example.

3.2 Will my car seat fit on my pushchair?

Most car seats will fit on the frame of your pushchair with the right adapter. The most common car seats are the Maxi Cosi, Cybex and Swandoo car seats. Almost every pram manufacturer has made adapters to fit the car seat on your pram frame. The advantage of a car seat on your pram frame is that you don't always have to take the carrycot with you. Simply attach the car seat to the frame with a click.

3.3 Can I turn the seat unit around?

Most prams and pushchairs allow you to turn the seat upside down. This means that your baby can sit facing you or away from you. This is not possible with some prams. This is especially true for the sporty jogger prams such as the Thule Urban Glide and the Mountain Buggy Urban Jungle. Here the seat unit is permanently mounted. Your child sits facing the world.

3.4 Is a black pram too hot in summer?

A dark or black pram is a little warmer in the summer. However, nowadays many prams are equipped with sufficient ventilation openings so that your child gets enough fresh air.

3.5 Is a pram with a handbrake a must?

A handbrake on a pram is not a must, but it can be very practical in some cases. For example, if you like to walk in the mountains, a handbrake is very practical.

3.6 Does my pram have enough UV protection?

Yes, the pushchairs in our range offer sufficient protection on sunny days. Many pushchairs have a sun canopy that can be extended to provide additional shade. If your pushchair does not have an extendable canopy, a sunshade is a necessary accessory.

3.7 Can I put my pushchair in 2-wheel mode and what are the advantages?

In some cases you can use your pushchair in 2-wheel mode. The frame is folded so that the front wheels are retracted and you can pull the pushchair on 2 wheels. Examples are the Cybex Priam, Bugaboo Fox2 and Bugaboo Cameleon3 Plus prams. This has the advantage that they can easily move through sand and snow.

3.8 Can I attach the front wheels of my pram?

Yes, you can lock the front wheels on almost all pushchairs. This is especially useful on uneven terrain so that the front wheels do not move back and forth.

3.9 Does the carrycot have a mattress?

Yes, every carrycot has a mattress. It is useful to order a fitted sheet to protect the mattress from any stains or accidents. Moon has equipped the prams with extra comfortable Träumeland mattresses.

3.10 Is the pram already assembled or do I have to assemble it myself?

Most prams are partly pre-assembled. With some you only have to click on the wheels. With other prams you have to assemble the fabric parts. However, this is a straightforward process.

4. Dimensions of the pushchair

4.1 How small can a pushchair be folded?

This depends on which pram you have. Before buying a pram , it is good to know how big it is when folded. This may have to do with the size of your car boot or the space you have at home in the garage or hallway. You can find the dimensions of the pushchairs at Kindermaxx in the product description of the respective pushchair.

4.2 How heavy can the pushchair be?

This depends on your own wishes. At the moment, the main focus of manufacturers is to produce the lightest possible prams in order to improve usability. If, for example, you have to carry the pram in and out of the car every day, or if you have to lift the pram up a flight of stairs, it is of course very practical to order a pram that is light.

4.3 Up to what weight can the pushchair be used?

This is different for every pushchair. Most combination buggies can take a load of over 20 kg.

4.4 Can I take my pushchair on an aeroplane?

Any pushchair can be taken on board in the baggage compartment in the lower part of the aircraft. However, there are a number of pushchairs that fold up so small that you can even take them as hand luggage. Examples are the BabyZen YoYo+ and the Joolz Aer Buggy. If your pram is larger and you need to fit it in the hold, then using a carry bag to protect your pram is a must. A matching carry bag is available for most prams.

5. pram accessories

5.1 Are there accessories for every pram?

Yes, there is a suitable accessory for every pushchair. There are original accessories for different prams, colour-coordinated with your pram, so you can buy everything in one style. Like a changing bag, a parasol or a footmuff. There are also accessories that are versatile and don't necessarily match your pram, but still match your own style. For example, think of the mummy bags from Studio Noos or the footmuffs from Kaiser.
